Desk Caller ID Telephone Repaired – Part 2 (Model: GEEPAS GTP7214)
I received this telephone with the same problem which was Hum in the ear phone! This is the same as previous model by some small differences as well as the color. First I plugged the line wire of phone to wall outlet and that was true I have very strong Hum on the phone even stronger than the previous model.
In order to find out the problem whether was due to bad earphone or malfunctioning of mother board, I replaced the hand set of this telephone with another good and trusted one.
When I replaced the handset with the good one, the Hum were no longer exist! I assumed that the ear phone has problem and I opened the hand set and with the help of multi tester, I connected my probes to the speaker pins, my ohm meter read 126.5 ohm and this is far beyond of a healthy speaker ohm! It must be around 44 ohms. I ordered one new speaker with the same model for this telephone from the electronic market but it was slightly bigger. The specification was the same except the size.
The handset compartment is too small for the new speaker.
I had to cut away some edges to produce more space for the new speaker.
Then I installed the speaker and resoldered wire connections as seen from the photos below:
After this the Hum was disappeared from the phone forever and telephone returned to service again. The cost of this repair was 1 USD and the price of this phone was around 30 USD in the market.

The old Dutch PTT T65 telephones still had carbon speakers and microphones which were not todays quality high tone electrets. And carbon is said being a semiconductor. (probably simply because it is inbetween an isolator and being a conductor). No idea why a coil in a microphone or speaker gets a higher resistance. I guess the opossite whould be more likely.
