My son came to me this morning and brought his well used old Ipad that he had for a long time. He pointed out that the digitizer on that device was broken. I smiled and I promised him to replace it as soon as possible.

This photo was taken after it was replaced on the Ipad but I just wanted to show you the damage.

The damage was less than that but in the process of taking the digitizer off, it was damaged more.

In this photo, you can see the model number highlighted in red. It is A1395. If you want to know any Ipad model, just Google this number found on the back of the any apple device and you will find out.

Usually I use heat from a heat gun to soften the adhesive on this device but in my case, the digitizer was already half way out which saved me a lot of time. This digitizer opens like a book and when you put it aside, while flex cable still attached, you can see the screen right under it.

There are four screws to be taken out. Once that is done, you will be able to see the flex cable on both the screen and the digitizer.

This is the screen flex cable and its socket, and to the left of that you can see the digitizer flex cables as well. Gently take them of their sockets and go one with the process.

This is the digitizer flex cable from a different view. Once that is done, the cleaning process start to make sure the digitizer sits nicely on the frame.

If that does not happen, you will have problem operation the touch function on this device.

Cleaning the old adhesive of the frame and then make sure the frame corners are also in good form otherwise, the digitizer will not sit right.

In my situation, since my son dropped this Ipad so many times, one of its corners was bent inwards. I have a special tool for that which is called Gtool. Take a look

This tool works as a pressing tool; I have the parts that fix the edges and also the actual frame of the Ipad. It is very expensive but on the long run, if you repair such devices in your shop, you need something like that.

Here you can see the machine in action. Very useful tool and it is worth having it.

First, I put the digitizer flex back to its socket, next put the screen of the top of the flex cable of the digitizer, put the screws back on, then bend over the flex cable of the digitizer like  closing a book on the top of the screen. Of course every digitizer comes with its own adhesive strips. Let the digitizer sit on the stop of the screen and press gently to make it stick to the top of the frame.

As you can see, it is done and I can wait to see the look on my sons face when he comes back from school.

Mission accomplished.

Good job, Waleed. iFixit has that tool for $89.99 - pretty expensive. I haven't had much luck with using tape on the digitizers, and I had everything perfectly clean beforehand and also put the tablet in my press for a few hours. I think I'll use adhesive from now on.

Robert: yes, it is expensive but mine is more expensive since I got the whole set. I am talking about 350 dollars worth. but it works on different ipads, iphons, and tablets. it is worth having it.

        Hi Waleed,

Yes, I saw that. iFixit also sells the whole set, or you can buy them individually.

Thanks for the Gtool tip Waleed. Luckily I am very careful with all my devices and equipment so I probably never gonna need it.

Thanks for the info Waleed ... it is important for the frame to be right ... otherwise it can put pressure on the screen and it will eventually become delaminated (after the repair) due to the un-even pressure on the edge of the screen.

    cheers.

Mandingo: yes you are right. it will either break from pressure or when it is dropped, it will break right away.
