Home Made Flyback Tester

By on November 18, 2008

One of my ERG member had successfully built a flyback tester base on the schematic  from Dick Smith flyback tester and he agreed to let me post his project for all readers in this blog to see. The tester has a very nice design and creative too and he had done a great job of fixing the tester. He is from Egypt and already in the TV repair business since 1980 and loved electronics very much. According to him he drawed the layout by his own using the program call Quickroute 2.0. Well done Refaat!

    Hello Mr. Yong,
I want to make the FBT, but there is no details in the given link about ICa in the circuit diagram, also this ICa not given in the PCB design too.

    Hi Lito,

I have not try that but you can always try it out and hope it will work. If you got the result as expected then it can be used.

    hi Jestine,

i just finished assembling the lopt/fbt tester of Mr. Bob Parker... i followed the instructions on the assembly manual of Dick Smith Electronics... initially when the tester is swithched on, the 1st LED (red) lits, but according to the instructions i have to short the 2 test leads in order for the LED to go off. is it normal for the 1st (red) LED to remain illuminated even without a load connected to it? thanks and have a good day!

    sincerely,

    lito

    Jestine,

thanks for the reply... i tried testing the primary winding of a lopt/fbt aiwa tv (in-circuit), and all the LED's lighted... i used a mylar capacitor instead of the mkt cap which is in the original design because it's not available in the market; i also replaced the transistor bc328 with bc327 co'z it's not available. so far i'm trying to build a plastic case for it.

i would also like to build the esr meter of Mr. Bob Parker but the problem is it uses a custom programmed microcontroller chip (z86e0412), is it possible to use a blank chip? is it possible to build this kit if it's using a programmable chip? thanks a lot

    best regards,

    lito

    HI Lito,

Blank chip will not make the meter to work. You need a programmed chip.

      Hi Ronnie,

Could you double confirm again the FET part number. I've not seen any FET that starts with K0034. In which section of the monitor you found this FET?

      Hi Salifu,

I suggest that you check all the components since you already replaced the two ICs. There will be surely a component that has problem.

      Hi Nathu,

If you want to check the value you need a digital capacitance meter. Analogue meter can't check the value. If you want to check the breakdown voltage then you need an insulation tester.
