Horizontal Line Problem In CRT TV
The complaint of this CRT TV was one horizontal line (about an inch thick). One horizontal line problem in CRT TV or Monitor is actually very common and the usual cause were dry joints in the vertical output IC, missing DC supply voltage to the vertical output IC, improper DC supply voltage (usually low dc supply voltage) , bad surrounding components, bad vertical output IC and etc. Sometimes the vertical yoke coils connector can have dry joints and in very rare case, vertical yoke coils can be open circuit. The photo below is just how a CRT TV look like once the cover was removed.
The first thing to do is to use visual inspection to look around the vertical output IC section. I saw a slightly bulged e-caps that was located in the vertical output IC area-see the photo below:
When the e-cap was removed I found that the bottom part of the capacitor almost came off.
The value of the E-cap was 1000uf 35 volt and it was easy to find the part.
I soldered the new e-cap and checked the surrounding components for dry joints and all the solder joints seems to be intact. I then turned On the TV and normal picture appeared-see the photo below:
Assuming in the above case I did not find the bulged e-cap, I will start to check on the DC supply voltage to the vertical output IC. If the DC supply voltage is good I will directly replace the vertical output IC and retest. I still have a lot of those 'old-style' CRT television and Commodore color monitors that still work fine. But I stopped repairing them because when they break down and they cost too much to repair or simply because parts are unavailable, I disassemble them for spare-parts. And I have a lot of parts already.

Good job suranga! My country south-africa people still using crt tv's an iam still enjoying repairing them, not that stupid new technology of plasma, led, lcd an etc... Where you must replace a fault board instead of replacing 1/2 bad parts.

Hi even me I face the same problem like yours but I am not lucky to repair it I changed all the capasitor around vertical ic and I check the voltage to vertical ic it was good atlast I replace the ic but still no lucky, please can you tell me the next step.

good morning Sir.... sir I have a TV CRT model 21SA6RG if I power the TV it will boast and drop at that moment the red light will on and off immediately pls help... but if I connect external power board, it will boast normal... I have changed the ic with this number STR w6554 and some resistors in its power board please help me

I have a CRT tv with a sharp orange line horizontal. have tried to change vertical ic bad capacitors dry joint checking the amount of current is receiving is okay but still it is not opening vertical please anyone with idea of how to handle it please help
