This SMPS was brought to me with the complaint that it was dead. As usual, first thing is to open and do a thorough cleaning, which I did. Dismantled and saw a lot of damages that have taken place in the board!  I saw transistors, resistors burst and burnt.  I saw tracks burnt!

Found another transistor, opto-coupler and diodes short!

Replaced all these components and did a thorough dry solder patch up. I did not find any Electrolytic Capacitor out of ESR.

Replaced the fuse, even though it was not blown (?) as advised and cautioned by seniors in this forum earlier.

Connected the power through a series bulb and found it to be working perfectly well. The voltages were also measured for accuracy.

Fit it back to its case and after thorough ‘soaking test’, gave it to the customer.

Another attempt of the ‘dump devil’ stumped, and added to my list of satisfactory services!

Good work!! But what is the idea of changing the fuse if this is OK?
Maybe it could be debilitated, more fragile?

    Best regards,
    GC

At first glance a repair without any decent chance of fixing it. But with your skill and professional care you again managed to finish the job! Even when this time no e-caps were involved to replace (LOL).

By sure, a different maintenance. No ESR out; a lot of components dead, and the fuse was not blown (?). And the gadget worked just after the first power-up. And better: according to your report, it was a quick maintenance. Greetings.

Sir, I will love to get feedbacks and replies from you. Have you any publication on vaccum tube technology? There is this method you always describe about you connecting a bulb in series to confirm the operation of a fixed device, I wish there is a YouTube link where it is well explained. I'm yet to understand that method. you can reach me on thorkpe@gmail.com

    Thanks
