No Disc In Singer DVD Player Repaired

The customer complaint that his Singer DVD Player can’t read disc-see the above photo. As usual, one has to remove the cover in order to troubleshoot the fault.

Once the cover was removed I could see dust and debris on the tray and the lens-see the photo below:

I then cleaned the lens with the help of a solution and cotton butt. I powered on the DVD player and inserted a disc and the problem still not resolved yet.

Next I had to check the pick up motor cap as I suspected it could have loosen or detached. After careful checking I found that the motor cap was loosen and I had to use a super glue to do the job. You cannot simply just put in the glue because it needs find adjustment for correct position to lens. It takes some experiences to properly get the job done.

Once done, I inserted a DVD disc and it worked like a charm- see the photos below. There was no longer ‘No Disc’ appeared. If you wish to learn how to repair DVD player you can check out Humphrey’s ebook HERE.

Thats great i learn something more about motor cap thanks a lot plse i have a question l got a sony bravia kdl 46w5710 lcd tv when power on it plays well for 5mins then i got vertical lines on screen plse advise

  Good Day
  About your Sony Bravia, You should check the power supply for stable voltages or the power control board on which the main LCD ribbon cable and inverter board control cables fits, The small spider chip must be damaged and overheating, You can try by changing that power board or just the chip.

Good job! Using supergule at that spot is a very tricky job and only well experienced (or shall I say in spoiling several in the process!) people can handle this!

A Funtastix repair Suranga! I will check on your advice to look at
Humphrey's E-book because my repair skills on repairing DVD Players
probably can use an upgrade since this repair was very new to me.

  I just bought and read Humphrey's interesting e-book on DVD players repair, but one question came to mind. How exactly can we adjust the Platter's Spindle motor height? I take it that it is just a matter of shifting the platter mechanical up or down on the motor axe? Or can it only be solved by exchanging the platter top from another spindle motor?

    Hi Albert.
    You can use the previous spindle motor to estimate the height-Placing a small precision screw driver between the platter and the motor can give a rough estimate of the height.
    
    It is also possible to remove the platter only and replace with the new spindle motor, this is very true while replacing home theater spindle motor but you should be careful not to bend the platter.

      Thanks for your reply Humphrey. I understand that the height is important. I have a digital Caliper/slide calliper to measure it exactly but I still wonder how the platter can be adjusted/is mounted on the spindle motor axe?
      And I noticed that a defect Bluray player has a special 4 pole Spindle motor which apparently differs from a CD/DVD player.
      It is the mechanical construction I am unfamiliar with. I also noticed in a Philips DVD player/recorder that the spindle motor axe with platter itself also can move up a bit without leaving its metal construction. But that also can be a defect why the plateau eject fails so often? Also because the top magnet is very strong and it simply refuses to disconnect mechanically from the spindle motor with the platter inbetween. Hence why the plateau can't be opened.
