SAMSUMG 32'' LED TV no display

This Samsung 32″ LED TV came in for repair with the complaint of no display. When i used a torch light to shine at the panel, I could see faint picture (TV Channel logo). This means the power section, mainboard and even the panel are good.

The problem is either the LED backlight or the LED driver circuit. The photos below are the mainboard and power supply board. The LED driver board is built into the power supply board.

I have checked the dc voltage to the LED backlight and found that the DC voltage came and dropped back to zero. This indicated there was problem with the backlight LED. If one of the LEDs in the backlight strip have problem the voltage will drop.

Next, I dismantled the panel and you must take great care of it otherwise if  the TAB bonding breaks, it would be difficult to repair it unless if you have a special machine for this.

I checked each LEDs and found only one that was not lighted at all when test it with meter set to diode mode.

I do not have the ready part for this LED so I installed a used LED from another junk LED TV .

Conclusion- It is not tough to repair LED TV with dim display problem. Just follow my procedure and I believe you can repair it very fast. If you want to be good in repairing LCD/LED TVs, you can check out Kent’s ebook here.

Because of the TAB bonding I've not done such a repair myself yet. In my opinion TVs with backlight problems are just not made to fix without greater risk of extensive damage. So well done Mr.Suranga!

So did you let them know you had used a second hand part and informed them that there is a possibility that because you had fixed the tv with a used part that it might happen again. And also did you give them a discount for using a used part and not a new one

No need to inform a client of any funny thing regarding a second hand part.
A repair has been carried out, immaterial. A Different diode could pop tomorrow! Same sympton, different part, same circuit!
    Well done repair wise!
