One of the clients in my company called me to check on his 65” Samsung LCD TV and the complaint was no power. I went to his villa and tested the LCD TV and the problem was indeed “no power”. The challenge that I had was about removing the LCD TV from the wall. I managed to remove it and placed it on a soft surface. After that I removed all the screws and successfully opened the back cover.

The first component that I have checked was the main fuse and it was tested good. I further checked the main filter capacitor and there was 300VDC.

I continued to check on the standby power supply area and found a resistor 2.2 Ohm open circuit. This resistor was connected to the source pin of the TNY264PN IC (8 pins). All corresponding components were checked to be good. Since I do not have this part number I have used another part number TNY266PN.  TNY266PN has higher specification than TNY264PN- see the below picture:

After the replacement of the resistor and the power IC the LCD TV was brought back to life again.

FERNANDO: as you told the big challenge for servicing the big size lcd/led
is you need some one to help you to bring down the tv from the wall or from the the stand second challenge you need TIME to open all screws to reach to broad third if the problem is found in psu you are lucky 90% you can fix it but if the problem of tv is in main broad or T-con you can not fix it in the resident of your client other wise you have to bring the main board or T-con same model with you fourth if you want to bring the tv to your company or your shop for repair you will need a big car to handle the case also this require invest... so and so..........

its so damn new, what could have caused it to fail in such a short period? do you think its a factory defect??? or was it running on a gen set?

I have been seeing this web site since 1 year. In a week one 0r two posts of rectifying electronic gadgets i receive and intrestingly I see all of them. One day my company's CPU SMPS had burst. I bought a new one and replaced, but the old one I opened to check, there I found main 2 Capacitors and a small found bulged and busted.
Slowly I removed and replaced new capacitors of the same value and got the SMPS back to life. Hats off to Justine Yong from him I inspired. Thanks.

In the picture it looks like it has a hole burnt in the top of the power IC. I may be wrong.

        Dear Robert

This "hole" in the top of the IC is nothing but an additional marking of the manufacturer, indicating pin no 1 of the IC. Many manufacturers are using the same marking method.

Yes, I know. But it looks like a black spot inside the spot.

google your part number, click on dealer spec sheet page then look at similar part numbers for an equal or higher tolerant part, many electronic part suppliers out there.

Hi Mr.Pete thanks your question!but first of all I am so sorry for delayed answer because I am not open my email long time from last October end of the month. My company we had a couple of project so I don't have time to open my personal email because I am using my outlook email in the company,so about your question regarding to pin point the problem of the ic actually I am using only my analog tester when I started to trouble shoot from primary to secondary supply I found the fuseble resistor is open I trace the connection of that resistor it's going down to HV of the regulator that I've mention above although this IC is having 7 pins but only 3 pins are working from pin 1 there is ceramic connected to pin 8 and pin 2,3,7 and 8 are connected to the negative ground of mother Capacitor and pin 5 is connected to primary transformer and pin 4 is connected to optocoupler for trigger the power so that means there is diode reading between the ground and pin 5 when I am using my tester to check both pins are shorted so i conclude that's why the fuseble resistor is open because of this shorted since I don't have the same part number I replaced the higher one number of ic and I never found another component there is problem so I hope it's clear to you how can I pin point the problem of the TV.

      Thanks

      Fernando
