servicing christmas light

This light was brought by one of my close contacts with the complaint that all LEDs were not lighting up. After opening the unit, I checked up and found that there were dry solder, which I patched up.

Replaced the two resistors, as these were out of range and marked its value on the board for future reference. Marked the connections on the reverse side too. Connected it to the mains and switched it on, it worked very well.

This unit had come a couple of years back, during which time I had replaced one of the thyristors. This uses a pasted IC!  christmas light fix

Here are some of the snaps taken while it started working:

The customer was happy as it was just before the Christmas and he got it back within a matter of 30 minutes!

Another enhanced satisfaction added to the list!

Good job Parasuraman. It is unbelievable how quickly months go by and we are in December again. And a happy light in the darkest of days is always a good thing! I wonder though about that 'pasted' IC you wrote about?

Its like a lump formed on the PCB. I have no idea how they make it. I have seen such ICs inside Remote Controls, LCD Displays etc. Its sort of pasted! Unfortunately, the snap I have taken is not clear enough.

Thanks, I was thinking in this regard you were referring to the replaced thyristor. But the photo makes it obvious now.
