The complaint of this Singer DVD Player was not working because many of the buttons was not able to be pressed.

This means all the buttons were jammed and you just can’t insert the DVD disc if the eject button is not functioning.

The first to check was obviously the microswitch buttons -see the photos below. This kind of switches have a life span of couple of years. Once it is bad, you just need to replace it and retest the set. There are repairers who repair this kind of switch but to me I will just replace it.

It was fairly easy to replace the switches. Just solder it out with your solder gun and put in the new switches. The cost of this new microswitch was not  expensive and sometimes you can salvage from a junk circuit board. In total I have replaced 5 microswitches-see the photo below:

Once done, I can easily pressed on the eject button and insert the Dvd Disc. I have also checked on the other functions of the DVD buttons and all seems to be working fine.

In electronics repair there are tough dog repair and there are also simple repair work. Sometimes it can be frustrated too but the satisfaction gained from a successful repair job always put a smile on our face. Happy Repairing!

Often Manufacturers use plastic lengthening buttons on the outside of a device that when pushed activate the push button switches underneath on the pcb. Sadly when they break off at their plastic lengtening extending parts it complicates the repair considerably. In such a case I had to repair a Bluray Player Eject button by replacing the Lengtening button on the outside by a 3-pin SPDT Momentary Microswitch with Lever. As can be ordered on Ebay at:
    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/10-Pcs-Micro-Limit-Switch-Long-Lever-Arm-Miniature-SPDT-Snap-Action-CNC-Home-/121240449049
After connecting the Microswitch to the originally Eject Pushbutton it worked perfectly again. By just pressing the added Microswitch Lever on the outside activates the Eject function instead of the original far underneath on the pcb placed Pushbutton.
Good thing your repair didn't need repairing the plastic top buttons itself!

Neat job as usual. This is often a fault found with laptop touch pad buttons. The problem here often is finding a new microswitch of the correct physical dimensions. Usually you have to make do with 2U switches removed from a suitable scrap motherboard.

Thanks Suranga, as you said, sometimes there can be as much satisfaction from a simple repair as a complex one. At least they don't keep you awake at night!

Hi Suranga, as you said at the end of the article: In electronics repair there are tough dog repair and there are also simple repair work. You have to be satisfied with you repair, and the ownwer too, because another equipment was saved from the dump.
