29″ CRT TV Philips Problem Solved!

By on July 6, 2012

I have a 29" CRT TV of Philips, PT2452/94S, which had arching problem at the base of the LOT cable that goes to anode of the tube. Since a good LOT as replacement was not available, I decided to patch up the leak. First of all I discharged the anode at CRT end, removed the connector, tied an insulation tape at the puncture, and inserted an insulation sleeve taken from a piece of underground telephone cable, which was a tight fit. Then I slid on a piece of petrol tube that is used in two wheelers, covering the entire cable upto the CRT connector.

Refit the anode cap, switched on and TV started working, but switched off after a few seconds. In service mode, error code was detected as 11 (problem in RGB). Replaced TDA6107 at the CRT PCB. Adjusted the focus and screen control to its optimum. Set worked fine. As a routine measure, I replaced all the 48 Electrolytic capacitors and also some of the high voltage capacitors around LOT. Set now works like a brand new one!

      Hi lance,

You meantioned that you need to wait more than 30 minutes in order for the display to appear. Have you check the heater whether have light the moment you turn on the tv? What about the g2 voltage? What is the volatge?

      Hi El,

You mentioned that the power LED is red in previous post but at the same time you mentioned it has no output voltages? If there is no output voltages this mean the power supply shutdown after went through high voltage. You need to check the optoisolator ic area for bad components.

      Hi El,

If after shutdown no output voltages from the smps then you need to check the components surrounding the optoisolator ic area. Check also for the vcc supply to the power ic in the power primary side. The supply should have regardless if the tv shutdown or not.

    hi Jestine,
I hv check the components surrounding the optoisolator ic. I found the input voltage for smps drop from 18 v to 13 v when it shut down.

      Hi El,
If the power LED does not have light and the voltage drop from 18 to 13 volt then you need to check on the tv cpu. The tv cpu must get 5 volt and the power led must light up either green or red. If the power led did not light up most probably the cpu is at fault.

      Hi DANIAL,

Make sure there is supply voltage to the audio ic and the ic is not too hot. In some cases the eeprom corrupted data could cause lost of sound.

    Hi Justine,
The input supply is there for audio ic and the reading is almost 20v but got no output. Should I replace the ic?

      Hi Danial,

If you have the scope you can check for the incoming signal. If there is no incoming signal then there will be no output even if you have replaced the audio IC.

      HI Oging,

It can be due to power supply itself have problem or something shorted/leaky in the secondary side. You may need to visit the link below to isolate the problem:

      HI Zaheedi,

After you have connected the 100 watt bulb and got back all the right voltages and did not shutdown this means it could be the something shorted in the high voltage side that had causes the power problem. It could be bad flyback, horizontal yoke, shorted diode and etc.

      Hi Zaheedi,

If the output voltages from the power supply is good and tested good even with 100 watt bulb along the B+ line then probably not due to this IC.
