A Dead Power Generator Control Board Repaired And Maintained
My cousin gave me a call and asked me if I can repair such board and I told him to bring it to my shop for check up. The next day, he showed up to my shop with that controller and I promised to take a look and call him back as soon as I have an answer about the repair.
My cousin is a manager of a Hotel located here in Bethlehem the Holy land. He has about five boards like that that are dead and needed repair.
So If I was able to repair this one, I will check also the other ones. So let the repair begins.
These are the connections on the back of the device and as I understood from the customer, the only way to check if the device is up and running; by connecting it to the main generator.
I took the top of the controller and I was able to see the inside of it. I had to take one of the boards out to expose the lower side of it.
I de soldered the side board and so far it did not reveal any burnt parts or shorted components.
There is an IC that I could see behind the right side relay so I soldered that part to get to that IC because it looks blown but was not sure.
It is a power IC that had a hole in it. The customer explained that he connected the device wrong so he ended shorting it and what I saw just now confirms it. The part number of this IC is 34063 PWHJA.

I already have that part in the shop and the only thing left to do is to solder it on board and hope for the best.
It was tiny but it was easy to solder it on board. I soldered the relay back on board as well and put the device back together and called the customer.
The customer was not in town, he was traveling abroad but when he was back in the country he came to my shop, took the device, and connected it to the generator at his hotel. He gave me a call later on that day that all is well and he is happy with the outcome.
Mission Accomplished.

Well done Waleed,
Looks like you have more work to do with the other control boards. Maybe a common fault?

Good job! Looks like you also are able to fix all other dead power control boards soon too.
Good article with 1.5A Buck boost DC-DC datasheet info. You shop inventory must be a very detailed up to date list.

Parasuraman: yes odd parts is what keeps me going in this kind of field. I mentioned the same thing to Albert about buying parts for technicians in my area and that gives me an idea what to order based on what needed to be repaired here. have a blessed day
