Working on a Japanese product makes me abandon my usual way of thinking and pick on exhausting thinking. For instance finding out IC TEA2025B is more or less IC KA2206B This radioes felt heavy in ones hand. In one pictures [call it 5(b)] upper portion the ferrite rod with a copper winding around it and the numerous adjustable coils, must have added to the radios weight. Look at 4(b), the casing for the weighty radio is thick enough to prevent the shell from cracking in the unlikely event of a fall. Also the shell wont break easily when a radio is hit hard with a hand whenever some looseness prevents it from operating normally, my goodness !. Its easy to see your fondness and appreciati
n for such a Japanese lovely masterpiece, sadly though, some poor radioes face brutality: endless hittings, repeated falls, mercyless sunlight exposure, disgustingly fed with a solar panels unregulated overvoltage. Its pure torture. Its a pity dear Eng. Parasuraman. I can tell ones character by the look of ones radio.

I searched for Mechanic GDR2. But unfortunately, I could not find any being sold in India. I do have a Relife micro grinder. But I forgot about it. Many thanks for your comments, inputs and references, dear Yogesh Bai!

Yes, dear Albert! Sometimes I had to use my mini drill to put a hole to remove the hardened lead, to make a fresh solder. Many thanks for your expert comments!

you have extended more 10 years to this device,
Hardening of old solder joint is also a headache specially in multi-layer PCBs like PC Motherboard can ruin your work. Thin traces, in particular, are more susceptible to damage that is beyond repair.
In market good micro grinding pens are available Like "Mechanic GDR2" which is very helpful to tackle these types of job & in India Price may be around Rs.1,000/-.

Solder joints hardened like cast iron are indeed very hard to re-solder! Which no doubt made it a very difficult to replace all those 15 old bad capacitors from that hardened solder!
Bringing this previous dead Sony radio back to life but also replacing the old rusted battery spring made this another well done radio repair!
