A Missing Part In A Turkish Made Welding Machine Repaired
A welding technician walked into my shop carrying his welding machine and a capacitor. With a smile on his face, he explained that this machine stopped working while he was welding and when he carried the machine to bring it to me; he heard something rattling inside the machine.
How funny is that?
But it gets really funnier or should I say stranger as I opened the machine and found out what also was missing on that power board of the welding machine.
There were actually two capacitors missing on that board. So I asked the customer later on where is the other part and he said: “ I have no idea”.
The way he was explaning the situation, I think he sent it to another technican and somehow one capacitor gone missing and for a while he was using that welding machine with only three capacitors inside not four. He also mentioned that the machine welding was not as strong as used to be and I think that explains everything.
So I soldered the old capacitor back on, added a new capacitor and re soldered every pin on that power board.
I cleaned all the dust off from inside the machine and I was about to power on the machine when I noticed the power plug has issues. As you can see in the photo, one of the power plug pin was melting and needed replacement.
Once all that was done, I powered up the machine and I was able to read voltages on the negative and the positive terminals of the welding machine which is an indication that the machine is up and running. Of course it was not a complete test till the machine was taken to my brother’s shop next door for a quick test. It was running according to specs.
