Imoudu: I would open it and clean it, maybe bad or cold soldering joints..I would find where the resistance connector on the inside of the dial and then trace it and see if there are bad or dirty connections there.

When the first touchscreen DMM's are available and become common good, the risk of them to break in these instances is probably much greater.
