You did the right thing. Fellow repairer should learn to accept the fact that one person does not know all and some are more experienced.
I have a similar problem with a 12V toy electric kid car, Red Lamborghini. There is a surface mount 16 pin DIL ic on the board which i suspect but it has no part number. When I removed it from the board I saw this under the IC 15276A, BQP15786. The IC is similar to what you have on that board. I am asking if you can help me out. Thanks

Waleed,
It is difficult to repair the unit when we don't have clear idea about working of that equipment.
It is OK to make money on time/material spent for the troubleshooting.Indeed when you have only single source of income.

Sir Waleed: The customer didn't get the information needed from the person that asked him to fix the toy car. You didn't fail, the owner of the store was at fault. The store owner gave a lame excuse for not letting you take the whole toy car. You did the right thing. Some times we feel like it's not our job to inform customers, how to be honest for one thing.

You were smart in thinking to make a deal if in anyway the board was cleaned and repaired and did not work you still get fees for giving it a try.
The customer in this case is like a bad patient making it impossible to successfully fix the problem.
