A Water Pumping Motor Repaired On A Teeth Planting Device
A few dentists that I fixed devices for recommended me to this salesman and because of that; he brought me this device for repair.
The device was powering on but the main issue was this motor that you see in the photo; it was not spinning. Usually the fault of these devices is caused by water damage.
When the dentist drills holes to plant a tooth, he uses water mixed with some kind of chemicals and usually it spills inside the machine and causes either a dead device or some parts in the device to stop working and I think this is the cause here.
You can see the white residue on this motor and lucky me or should say the customer’s luck that this motor was not faulty because when I applied an external 12 DC to the motor, it started to spin which explain one thing, the motor was not getting any power to run.
I powered on the device and pushed the motor paddle to provide the motor socket with power but as expected, there was no power reading there.
I checked all these components and all checked fine.
I took the board off and traced the power to the back of it and I found a lot of these components have cold soldering joints. Take a look
As seen in the photo, these soldering joints are not healthy and needed some tender loving care. I cleaned the area and used flux on all these connectors and applied fresh solder and hoped for the best.
This is the final re soldering results and I can see a lot of improvement but will this bring the right voltages to spin the motor, I was very optimistic.
Before I applied power, I saw some rust on the top of the motor rod so I cleaned and applied just a tiny drop of oil and powered up the device.
Yes, the motor started to spin and that was music to my ears. I called the guy, informed him of the good news and he came to pick up the device and I can tell he was happy with the outcome and paid very generously.

Im learning to reflow all old joints on any PCB that has that dull lead look to it.

Good job! Just to make sure it doesn't happen again it would be a good idea to also like in Washing machines and Dryers is common sense to varnish the pcb with some protective layers against rust from moisture.
