About Sunwa Capacitor Tester

By on July 15, 2009

Yesterday i went to Pasar Road (electronic suppliers) to buy tools and meters for students to use in today’s Basic Electronic Repair course. I bought 3 Pro’s kit digital multimeters, 3 TES 1500 Digital Capacitance meter, one Sunwa Meter, 2 Hakko 981 solder gun, 2 desoldering pump and some other tools like screw drivers and etc. As for the Capacitor Meter i would usually buy the TES 1500 model because it has proven to be very reliable. I have one unit that is still serving even after 5 to 6 years!

Since i saw a new unit of a Sunwa Digital Capacitor Meter, i decided to try it out and see how is the quality and the performance like. I have tested the range selector and found that it was quite good. I guess it have to be used it everyday to really test out the meter. For your information not all SUNWA meter are no good. I have a SUNWA analogue meter that is still workable even after 4 to 5 years! I bought a Kyoritsu analogue meter and the selector broke after one year in use. I had used a non branded capacitor tester before and the selector broke in less than 7 days!

The sales person later hand over me some of the latest Pro’skit and Nakajima Catalog and i found that there are lots of new meters produced. Here are the photos of the Sunwa Capacitor Tester and the Catalog:

I think that capacitance meter looks nice.I use the Sunwa analogue meter myself and I think it is very nice quality, especially since it is only $16 USD, I also like the Sinometer meters for the price.Pro'sKit is nice, I use there tool kits, for the price they are really good, the hand tools are really nice quality.

I have always used the Fluke meters. right now I have the 112 on and it very good and it had it for almost 5 years. the rest of the tools I use the craftsman tools which proven to be excellent in preformance and it has a life warranty on it. so far, I am very very pleased.

    Hi Waleed,

Thanks for the post and I'm using Greenlee Multimeter as it has lots of function and very fast in showing out the test result.

I am surprised that our top two repairers Jestine and John have positive comments about the Sunwa (an obvious imitation of Sanwa). I have bought a used Yokogawa analog multimeter from an auction site. Having read Jestine's excellent ebook on Basic Component Testing, I am convinced that I needed a good analog meter to complement my current DMMs (a Sanwa CD772 and an E-Sun EM306B clamp).

cheers also to Jestine and John, your websites are treasure troves of information for a newbie repairer like me.

    Hi Arjunaidi,

Yes you need an analogue meter to help in testing some of the components. By the way there are few types of Sunwa analog meter, just get the one that is slightly expensive which have the better quality.

    Hi Attila,

Thanks for the comment. As mentioned in the post not all cheap meters are bad. I had a Sanwa original meter that lasted only 3 years and broke down where alse my Sunwa cheap meter could last me more than 4 to 5 years! By the way Sunwa have different version. Get the one that is sightly more expensive than the others.

Thanks Jestine, I've purchased a unit of KS7115, while dropping by KL last week and the meter performed nicely. It's a good buy for me. Hope it will last for few yrs though...

    Hi Tanu,
Sorry i do not sell this tester. The price was about USD27.00 and the quality of TES1500 is much better than this cap tester.
