This Radio belongs to my School Teacher, who is in his 90+, whom I meet often, during Alumni Association activities and other occasions. Very lovely teacher, who is one among the few who would take the students along the way he wants and puts knowledge and wisdom into us through his loving care and concern. Highly respectable person, who also got many awards for his services in Literacy. He told me that the Radio was intermittent in its working. As he is fond of listening to Akasavani (All India Radio), Thrissur right from the early morning when the station is switched on, he wanted me to fix it as early as I could.

So, I brought it home, opened it and cleaned the inside very well, as usual. I was so excited for having got a chance to pay tribute to my mender and great master! Just see the condition of the set inside:

I think the set was never opened for service, after it was bought. I saw there were a lot of dry solder and on checking, the ESR of all the capacitors were out. So, did a thorough dry solder patch-up, replaced the capacitors and switched it on. It worked very well.

Here is a picture of the components replaced.

I completed the work overnight, reassembled it and delivered it first thing in the morning, before AIR starts at 5.55AM! He was so happy and blessed me well as usual. I politely refused to take any charges from him, such a great man!

Another more than satisfactory work added to my list, along with blessings from an elderly person.

Your services are as always very well appreciated, and highly commended for the preventive replacing of bad e-caps, and also for the cleaning of the devices. And your old school teacher couldn't have found a better repair-engineer!

Seldom does one get the opportunity in life to appropriately thank a respected former teacher, especially an elder who is no longer active (and perhaps forgotten by many). While I am sure your gracious act was appreciated by your teacher, I suspect you were much more pleased and honored than he.
You will remember this little deed fondly for the remainder of your own life!
    My commendations

I am very glad that you have made your teacher happy by repairing his radio. I am a 71 year old radio serviceman and I am happy that there are still a few keen radio listeners. In the small place l am living in l have hardly done any repairs in the last decade. Everything is TV now. Recently l received a RL118 with a half-shorted RF IC CD2003GB. Am unable to find a replacement. Could anyone tell me where it can be had from? I want the original and not the same number from any other make such as LN UN etc.
