Bed Recliner Board Repaired
A regular customer gave me a call about a control board that is used for a bed recliner in a nursing home nearby. He said the board is not working and needed an urgent repair.
The customer who is my cousin made an attempt to repair the board himself but was not successful because he is not a technician.
He brought the board to be repaired in my shop and as I said before it was an urgent needed repair.
The board was completely dead and no sign of life whatsoever, so I headed to the part where I usually check in such a repair, the fuse.
The fuse (2.50 amps) was open and I do not know what caused the fuse to blow. Was it because of short on board, or just went open.
So I preformed a check on all the parts on that board and I was happy to see all the parts checked just fine.
So I decided to replace the fuse and power on the board through a current limiter and see the outcome. The open fuse that was found on that board was replaced by my cousin earlier so when I asked about the rating of the fuse, it was 3.15 amp not 2.50 amps.
As you can see, the board came on but if you look deeply into the photo, you would see a bright light coming from light bulb on that current limiter. There was also a high humming noise coming out of the main transformer and I was wondering why this was happening.
If you look to the transformer rating, it was 120 AC volts and wow I was so lucky that I powered it through a current limiter otherwise we would have some kind of explosion in my shop.
The customer was in the shop with me the whole time and did not inform me that this transformer runs on 120 AC volts and when I asked him about that he did not know either.
Anyway, to make the story short, the board was up and running because the customer took the board and connected through a 220/110 step down transformer and everything seems to be working fine.
