Beyond Repair Due To Unknown Part Number In IC

I received this epilator machine from the same customer that I repaired the Panasonic telephone. The model is JDL -6062 12 VOLTS DC 500MA (MADE OF P.R.C).

epilator machine repair

Jundeli epilator repair

This machine consists of two parts one adapter that producing 12 v and epilator machine itself. First I tried to turn on the Machine by plugging the adapter to wall outlet but machine did not turn on.

Then I disconnect the adapter from Machine and with help of multi meter I tried to read 12 v DC from the outlet connector but this time multimeter read 0.

Jundeli epilator fix

Then I decided to open the adapter. No screw for opening! This means by power of hammer and knife or any other methods adapter must be opened. I preferred this time to open it by help of gasoline and Q-tip. First I massage the body of the adapter just between the edges of top and bottom of the case with a Q-tip that was wet with gasoline and I leave it for few minutes then just with small pressure with tip of a flat screw driver I opened two part of the case.

Inside was the pcb and most of the main components of smps were present on the board like big cap, transformer, transistor, diodes, opto IC and so on. With the multimeter I tested one by one, all of the components were found to be good and all of the values were in the tolerances except the opto isolator IC EL817

Jundeli epilator fixing

This is a 4 pin component, pin 1 and 2 are the diode side of opto and pin 3,4 are the photo transistor side of opto by testing the pin 1 and 2 I found out that this side of opto is opened (refer to: THE BOOK OF MR JESTINE YONG TESTING ELECTRONICS COMPONENT) by replacing of opto and resoldering of some bad joints the adapter returned to life. I replaced the DC wire and bad connector and the job was completed.

Now I had this hope that with the epilator receiving the voltage from adapter the machine will start working but it did not! Then I decided to open the 4 screws in the machine

how to repair epilator machine

how to repair jundeli epilator machine

The machine itself consists of a pcb and on the pcb two ICs, 4 big smd transistor 2 smaller one few resistors one motor 1 rotating switch two metallic antenna. In the way up to the circuit from DC connector one smd ic regulator was installed 78L05- sot89. This is a 5 volts regulator a tripod IC ,the input of this IC was from pin 3  and output from pin 1. IC  was receiving voltage from adapter but no output!

I replaced bad regulator with a good one now regulator supplying 5 volts for 8 pin smd IC but the machine did not turn on again! What is this 8 pin IC? Snce the manufacturer of this Machine scraped the code of this IC and to verify what kind of IC it is installed is difficult and made this machine irreparable. The reasons that the manufacturer has done this is as follow:

1- Stop others to copy this invention and keep this patent for inventor forever pending.

2- Keep the secrecy of invention

3- Encourage the users to buy a new machine and not to repair it just to get more sales.

I tested all other components and I found all of them good except this unknown IC.

Note 1. Actually the motor of this machine is not rotating always in one direction scraped IC by sending the signals to transistors and by amplifying the signals by three stages voltage to motor and motor by rotating to right and left pull the thread to right and left and engage with unwanted hairs and doing the job of epilation.

Note 2: In stage 1 transistors are smaller they are pre-amplifiers but in second and third stage they are bigger and more powerful transistor D882 NPN and D772 PNP they make a push pull alike circuit in this machine. the scraped ic determine the negativity or positivity of the signals to push pull circuit and eventually the motor by receiving this voltage rotate to left or right.

Note 3: unknown 8 pin IC was receiving the voltage but there was no output from other pins most probably the problem of this machine is from this 8 pin IC, that is why this machine is IRREPARABLE!

Win some and lose some is what they say! nice troubleshooting sequence nonetheless Mr Beh. I am having the same sort of problem with an electronic metronome. No one has a data sheet for the samsung semiconductor KS5403 16 pin IC or the C2120 & A1266 Transistors. Very frustrating.
Thanks for sharing. I always enjoy your articles on Electronic Troubleshooting.

      Hi Christopher
      THANKS and you are WELCOME
Yes this is the way that manufacturers found to stop us from repairing not giving the data and diagrams and/ or in a very nasty way scarping the components codes just for a few dollars more.
      cheers

Hi Cristopher. Maybe this is the transistor datasheet you were looking for:

You probably need the 2SC2120 datasheet:

Okay Beh, maybe this IC was just a simple NE555 used as multivibrator? Have you checked if the pc circuit could resemble a working 555?

Hi Beh. Did you try wetting the IC and looking at it under a microscope to see if you could read the part number? Sometimes that will help.

I suggest you remove the IC. The part number might be underneath. I have seen such cases in many Chinese made devices.

      Hi PARASURAMAN

I did your suggestion and yes it was written in the back of the ic DC1316 it was glued heavily and consumed time for desoldeing but any way your suggestion worked. good friends solve the problems for each others always.but not found any data in the web about this ic yet!
      thanks

      Hi Parasuraman
Despite of all our efforts this machine is not fixed yet. do you have
any idea that where i can get one of these DC1316 ic s .I have not
found in the web. if your answers is negative then i will be so sure
that this is a customized ic and not available in the market .
      thanks

Hi Beh, your article is very detailed and analytical. It happens to discover during a repair an IC with erased code, its not a complicated case here because since the IC is controlling the motor of the epilator it should surely be an H bridge mosfet driver of which there are several variants as L9110, IR2155, IR2111 and TC4423 of which attached a schematic link
    http://www.circuitstoday.com/motor-driver-using tc4424
I hope with simulation and comparison between the ICs pins you manage to decipher the suspicious code.
    Be healthy

Thanks to everyone who has provided their invaluable contributions respecting determining rather identifying the IC. I am thinking that the problem will be solved, if a known motor driver IC with applicable data sheet is procured and the schematic diagram of the IC is compared with the physical diagram of the machine and found to be the same, then you would conceivably be able to use that IC as a substitute

Hello Beh, I wish you to be in shape and take a deep breath to face this concern! it is quite likely that it is just an imitation or an encrypted hacking of the IC LT1316 by adding the letters DC in front,
and you have to wonder why the manufacturer has hidden the code DC1316 under the chip? also we must be surprised at the ability of these Chinese developers to invent a lot of arbitrary numbers for multitudes ICS flooding the electronic market! I guess the DC1316 should not be a DC-DC converter
since as you mentioned it is powered by 5V IC 7805, while the The LT®1316 is a micropower step-up DC/DC converter that operates from an input voltage as low as 1.5V to 5V output. So just a resemblance of the number 1316 and the DC1316 seems to play a role of motor driver.

      Hi ABDELLAH

yes .and that is why supplier are not sure about these kind of parts and do not supply cos of fake and unknown coded parts they won t have customer either .yes chines are governing the rules of electronics parts in the world and they do what they want to do .we are just passers.
      thanks

    HI to ALL
Since none of these LT1316 L910 1R2155 IR2111 TC 4423 are available in my local market and ordering to CHINA due to very expensive postage fees does not let to repair it competently (economical reasons) i wont complete this project.but
i appreciate for all of your contributions and cooperations that you all did in these past days to me
