Albert, it is a matter of self-practice, when you self-practice you will be able to decide the ratio as per requirement.first prepare the broken are by cleaning then apply thin layer of superglue then sparkle little baking soda over applied glue now repeat the process until you get the result.

I too had this thought But fixing the same pin would retain the original shape.
if plastic cover was in unrepeatable state i would have replace it with Cable.
