Really, the WD-40 is a practical and efficient product for many tasks. The problem is that WD-40 IS NOT A LUBRICANT. It is useful for loosening stuck parts, as in this article. With the parts free, one can conclude that the set is lubricated. DEFINITELY NOT. Please check the words in the can and you will realize that IN NO PART THE MANUFACTURER SAYS IT IS A LUBRICANT. As a matter of fact, it makes just a cleaning and removal of water, residues and dirt. By the way, the WD in the brand means WATER DISPLACEMENT. The 40 means that the developer was successful on the 40th attempt.

So, the WD-40 continues to be very useful but must be complemented later with a lubricant product. If one uses only WD-40, the component (for example, a fan) will work initially well, but in a few time the lack of lubrication will render it worn.

Recently used WD40 on a stuck smps 14x14cm fan. No luck. Also peeling off the top sticker didn't help because it was completely closed.

Tried that recently Yogesh with a 12V SMPS 14x14cm fan. No luck. Besides WD40 is known for degrading plastic in time! Even the residu that is left apparently does.

The label can be peeled off to reveal the sealing cap. Then we can use WD40 or any other lubricant. The fans get stuck due to hardened grease and become loose once we do this. I have repaired many SMPS fans this way and it has proved to work very well for a long time. Many thanks for your comments!
