igold dvd player repair

MAKE AND MODEL: iGold IGL-DV05 DVD Player

COMPLAINT REPORTED: Dead

PRELIMINARY OBSERVATION: After opening and cleaning the set, noticed a bulgy capacitor in the secondary of the power supply-cum-front panel board.

TROUBLESHOOTING AND RECTIFICATION DONE: Replaced all the electrolytic capacitors in the power supply board. Patched up dry solder on it. Dismantled the whole boards and tray. Cleaned everything thoroughly. Lubricated the connectors using Armstrong Switch Cleaning Oil, applying one drop in each hole in the socket using a syringe. Found the strip wire that goes to the Eye Unit was strained. So replaced it. Cleaned the Eye with a clean cotton swab applying a bit of IPA in it.

Did a trial run by keeping the boards outside itself. It worked perfectly well without any hitch. After ensuring that it was reading around five to six different DVDs and MP3 CDs and that everything worked well during prolonged play, fixed all the boards back. Running a DVD or CD until it reaches the last track is very important in such repairs as the sliding motor sometimes can have problems. I had even applied lubricant in the moving tracks of the sliding motor as well as the ejection tray. I used silicon grease for these. Fit back the cover and again let it run a few DVDs and CDs continuously for hours. Thus mission accomplished and satisfaction got added to its collection!

You also seem to have the right products at hand like
even something like silicon grease I myself never used before. Not just something that is ready available in any shop in my town I guess. Because here there also exists only one electronics shop.

Many thanks for your comments! You can use petroleum jelly. But is likely to melt and spread!
