C or 2SC NPN Transistor?
This is the part number and standard codes for transistors. The letter “C” printed in front of the transistor is European, while 2SC is Japanese code. These code applies to “A”, “B”, “D”, “J”, “K” and etc. That means if you have a faulty J516 and the electronic supplier gave you a 2SJ, you have to take it as this part spec is the same as J516. The problem now we are facing is that certain manufacturers prefer to use their own codes and make us confused if we don’t refer to a data book or internet for its data or specification.
Let’s take the horizontal output transistors (HOT) as an example. Nowadays we have seen lots of HOT used in Monitors (and TV too) with the part number as BU2508DF, BU 2708DX, B4522AX and etc. If you refer to the data book and begin to search for “B” (you thought it was a PNP transistor), you may end up could not find one because it was a NPN transistor! In future please take note of the part number as mentioned earlier some manufacturers do not follow the standard code anymore. Oh ya! got another example: J6812 is a Npn transistor and not a FET. Please take note of this!
Today my office internet connection have problem and i can’t access the internet and i got to rush back home to use the internet to write this blog post and also to support my customers just in case if they have any problems with any electronic repair and downloading problem. Tomorrow, i will be giving a three days basic electronic course for my friends son who has finished his SPM (form five) and starting from next week onward i would be very busy giving courses for the Malaysia Airport Technologies staff and expected to finish all the courses in one month time. Well, got to start to reserve my energy again for the one month course.

Sir Jestine, good day.
I'm fixing a TV and I found out that the HOT was burnt. Now my problem is that the part or model number is unreadable because the heat almost erased the number. the only that remains are the big letter "F" and the last 3 numbers which is "386". I've searched the internet to find out more above this HOT but I failed.
Could you help me to find this transistor or the replacement for this?

Hi Ariel,
Sorry no information on that TV but F stand for Fairchild and 386 could be a 2SC5386 HOT. I guess you may need to test it out.

Hello, I need to replace a C5855 HOT and at the store they told me a C5250 is the same but i'm not sure. Can you help me please?

HI Petes,
For any replacement you need to test out if it will go hot or warm. If the HOT is warn then it is okay and if it is hot then it can't be used. You may need to test it on higher resolution too. Try use other number like C5411 and C5047.

HI Imoh,
Sorry i do not have the replacement spec for this transistor. Try few HOT and make sure it runs warm and not hot. If hot then you should try other part number.
