I wouldn't use WD-40 in electronics because it becomes sticky and attracts dirt and stuff.
I use the Radio Shack Control/Contact cleaner & lubricant. It works very good.

I have given little thought about the chemicals I use. This helps me think about them more.
Oddly enough, the picture showing .0047uf capacitors is timed just right. I have on my bench a Jesco SP-28W wit that capacitor. It gets hot, but nothing else. I replaced it with no success. There is a thermistor next to it. I see no burnt or swollen parts. Sometimes when I check the voltage to the big yellow capacitor it will light. Any ideas?

I avoid carbon based oils as they also attack plastics over time.
