TROUBLESHOOTING AND RECTIFICATION DONE: Set was opened for cleaning and I was taken aback to see a lot and lot of cockroach eggs in almost every place apart from cob webs, which held carcass of a cockroach and other dirt collections! Looks like the set was a cockroach haven! After dismantling the CD unit, and removing the PCB, I cleaned the board as well as the cabinet very well. Also cleaned the Board with IPA. Removed the front panel and there also I found a lot of eggs. Cleaned that too very well.

Did a dry solder patch up on spots where the soldering was bad. Checked ESRs of caps at random and found these to be ok. After making sure there were no visible damages to the power supply section or other parts applied a 12V DC to the pins and found the set to be working. The USB was not working. The 5V DC and the clock pulse were present. The tracks were traced to the μController and found ok. So, the problem was due to either an internal problem of the IC or corrupted software. I hunted for an upgrade or reload of software, in the web as well as with my techie friends, with futile results. Hence told the party that they cannot use the USB. Lubricated the connectors with switch cleaning oil and assembled the set back. Cleaned the eye of the CD Unit with cotton and the reachable inner parts with brush. Ran a couple of CDs and found it to be working. Allowed one CD to run through to check that there were no problems with the sliding motor. Tuned Radio in all the bands and found these also to be working very well. Mission accomplished though only a partial satisfaction got jumped into the bag!

Yes, in a sense we, technicians are scavengers! We are forced to do cleaning job in almost every device we set our hands on! But it is thrilling to do it!

I have a tv repairman friend, that when he could smell the Cockroaches in a job, he would put the unit inside a trash bag, and spray inside the bag with bug killer, then let it remain closed to kill all the cockroaches. We live in Arkansas in the USA, where we constantly have to spray our homes with some kind of poison to kill the varmints. Fortunately the unit you repaired in this case the roaches were all dead. Repairing the USB would have been expensive, due to time, and lack of support from the manufacturer, sounds like you tried. Good job Parasuraman S

I suppose this Stereo could have been out of use for a long. Cockroaches were living freely inside till you arrived and killed all of them Hahaha.

Yes, it is true! Neglecting a device and keeping it unused for a long time, can also cause such pest infections.
