    Dear Members,
Any body can tell me how a low Wattage (say 14W)flourescent lamp/bulb can be attached with car/ motor cycle batery. and get instant light when AC current is unavaiable.

this is very interesting. I never thought that they can be fixed. on the other side, they cost less than two dollars in my country. it is not worth the time and effort. thanks for the hit though

    HI Waleed,

Yes although it is cheap, i guess it could be fun for beginners to try it out because it did not have many components in it.

Hi Jestine, hope you are having a faboulus day today.
I have a television set, a pair of computer speakers and an audio AV 444 Mackogo(amp makes a zooming sound as soon as you turn it on even when the volume control is zero) aplifier that were hit by the lightining, with the power on on the distribution board, but all these componets were on an off state.

Which components do I start suspecting and replace right away especially when you do not yet currently have sufficient testing equipment for all of these?

Have yourself a nice Day !

    HI Johannes,

Since it already hit by lightning, i suggest that you test all the components in it. The surge from the lightning could destroy any component.

    Hi Jestine,
Good Day sir,I am an electronic hobbyist and I often read and browse your site in fact i have purchased
your e book online "Testing electronics components" i would like to inquire regarding the Blue ESR meter from anatek how can avail the meter as a kit.I would like to assemble it myself.I live and work here in Dubai,UAE i have already went to  ask a lot of electronic shops here in dubai about ESR meter and it seems the shops here never heard of this instrument because they reply back with a question "what is it".
I would appreciate if you could give info on which distributor company dealing this kind of testing device here in UAE,have browse the net for it and found nothing. or I would be glad if you could facilitate sending me one.
    Thanks..
PS. please can you reply via my email..I badly need this device.

well i have 2 lamps that went bad they were made in italy and have very beautiful bright white i decided not to toss them

the symptom was the lamp producing light but the light was viberating from dim to bright it was great source of nuisance

when i opened it i saw the main filter capacitor which was 10mf at 400volt is bad replacing it returned the lamp to it previous condition one thing to mention is that the flouscent lamp wires it self are not soldered to the board but rather attached to 2 leads of some sort.......you must remove wires that are tiwsted around the leads and to access the board from buttom side and when the time comes to return them dont twist them around the leads remove the leads and solder the wires drectly to the board this will gurantee that they made good contact ...if you try to twist them you will not be able to make a perfect twist and this will cause intermittent connection and failure ..no matter how hard you try to twist them you want make it like the factory ...just solder them and you ok ....i repaired the first lamp and twist them and fail withing one day.....the 2 2 other lamps are soldered and they survive 2 weeks so far and i expect them to live much longer ........these things are cheap but tossing them is harmful to the environment repair whenever possible that is it

I read with interest your post from George Persico on repairing the ballast for a fluorescent desktop lamp (March 22, 2016). I have a lamp with similar conditions. Lamp does not attempt to start: verified continuity through the fuse and that R1 was functional, replaced the bulb - all without success. I'm measuring 336 VDC at the output of the power supply section marked V+. I assume this voltage should be much higher. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
