I read with interest your post from George Persico on repairing the ballast for a fluorescent desktop lamp (March 22, 2016). I have a lamp with similar conditions. Lamp does not attempt to start: verified continuity through the fuse and that R1 was functional, replaced the bulb - all without success. I'm measuring 336 VDC at the output of the power supply section marked V+. I assume this voltage should be much higher. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

well i have 2 lamps that went bad they were made in italy and have very beautiful bright white i decided not to toss them

the symptom was the lamp producing light but the light was viberating from dim to bright it was great source of nuisance

when i opened it i saw the main filter capacitor which was 10mf at 400volt is bad replacing it returned the lamp to it previous condition one thing to mention is that the flouscent lamp wires it self are not soldered to the board but rather attached to 2 leads of some sort.......you must remove wires that are tiwsted around the leads and to access the board from buttom side and when the time comes to return them dont twist them around the leads remove the leads and solder the wires drectly to the board this will gurantee that they made good contact ...if you try to twist them you will not be able to make a perfect twist and this will cause intermittent connection and failure ..no matter how hard you try to twist them you want make it like the factory ...just solder them and you ok ....i repaired the first lamp and twist them and fail withing one day.....the 2 2 other lamps are soldered and they survive 2 weeks so far and i expect them to live much longer ........these things are cheap but tossing them is harmful to the environment repair whenever possible that is it

Hi Chaitan,

You can visit the link below and email the owner for more info at:

http://ludens.cl/Electron/esr/esr.html

or you can buy a ready one or kitset unit at:

http://www.electronicrepairguide.com/blue-esr-meter.html

The manual of the blue esr meter will show you how to assembled it.
