Hi Albert,

Thanks for the comment. That safety glasses is used when checking on the SMPS (a blown cap sometimes could fly few meters away) and it is not to deal with the invisible laser beam as you have mentioned. If deal with laser beams, then it needs another type of special glasses. I need to train the students to wear it so that in the future the students will automatically wear it when comes to SMPS repair. I had students that came from a semiconductor factory and they put on the safety glasses in every practical lessons that I had conducted. They were used to it wearing safety glasses automatically whenever they checked on any type of circuit boards. They had been trained in their factory the importance of using the safety glasses.

Well done you guys! Noticed that even safety glasses are used while servicing on dvd/cd players. I guess that it doesn't help to protect against the invisible or partly invisible laser beam coming from the player's laser-head. Here it probably only protects against optical fiber splinters in case the cd/dvd breaks apart while rotating at its high speed? Which is not uncommon to me because it happened to me already twice at home with a Bluray disc and a DVD disc inside my player/burners. The often way too high rotation speed up of the drive motor causes this effect. (Which I also wrote about in the past on the Blog)
