You are probably right, but if shops advertised it would at least get them to think about preventive maintenance.

No Robert, it's the people who don't understand that all electrical & electronic equipment need preventive maintenance. Even though they do they are unwilling to lose the service of that equip for a few hours/days, lazy to call/take out the equip for servicing and thirdly reluctant to spend little money. Finally they end up with equip failure that leads to spending big amount. Unless periodic PM isn't done and we hear abnormal sound or feel the equip run hotter than normal such as motors, table/ceiling fans, PCs, AC etc we have to stop using that equip and call immediately for service.
