The IC to me bears a close resemblence to viper 22A, I know other than its internal electronic setup, appearance doesnt matter though I cant stop imagining that its certainly a PWM IC, concidering that it lies squarely in the SMPS territory and its beyond me to visualize what else it may well be intended for. And whats more, A22s are fond of bursting in protest as they quit duty, evidence lies in some DVD sets. Now,I'm pondering over this, wouldnt fitting a power module have more or less just worked ?

Boards come with Power Factor Control and without that too. PFC is used in high end models as a statutory requirement to follow regulations of the Electricity Board. This model was also using a PS with PFC, which also depends upon the power consumption. The replacement board was not available and I had no other go but to do this. Many thanks, dear Albert for your expert comments and inputs! I prefer to buy from known techie friends instead of online as I get guarantee from my friends.

Odd that this board couldn't be bought online because I found several offers while searching for about 40 dollar/euro. Used of course but obviously tested before presenting. It is good to know that another compatible replacement board without the PFC was available. But I have no idea what that meant?

I find it frustrating when the component is so damaged that you can't order the correct one to replace it.
I find it twice as frustrating when the manufacturer has purposely ground of the part number to stop any back-engineering or repairing.
