samsung led data tv repair

To be very frank, I do not like to do the kind of work that I did in this TV, as mentioned by me in a few of my articles before. But, when the customer is found to be disinclined to go for a change of panel or buy a new TV and requests our help to try to restore it to working condition, we are forced to do so. But I ensure that my credibility is not affected by informing the customer that what I attempt is similar to a bypass surgery and there is no guarantee of result or longevity and further that in case of failure again, the TV has to be discarded.

I take up the work only after they explicitly agree to this condition. As you can see from the picture given above, the display was like this and after a few minutes, the entire screen would be full of lines. After opening the TV and subjecting it to a thorough cleaning, I kept the TV on my service table to check the VGL/VGH/AVDD/VCOM/VDD voltages which were found to be normal. (VGH: 22.92, VGL: -8, AVDD:15.17, VCOM: 5.4, VDD: 11.93) So, it was clear that the panel had internal shorts.

As you can see from above picture, the TV was using a combo board (Power Supply and mother board together) without a T-Con board. The LVDS cable is connected to the scaler board directly. The Data lines go to the panel from both sides of the COF and are parallel connections.

After consulting with my techie friends, I located these spots using a microscope. (Please ignore the date in it, as it gets reset to default when we switch it off and there is no storage of memory in this economic model)

JP4, JP21, JP19 & JP17 were cut one by one and after cutting the fourth line, the picture became ok. These lines go parallel to the other side, picture of which is given below just for information:

Generally double line tracks that goe into the panel through the COF are the data lines. Sometimes we may have to cut up to around six lines, before getting a clear picture. If there is no improvement when we cut tracks on one side, we may have to rejoin them and do the same on the other side. In cases where T-Con boards are used, we can mask the tracks inside the connector.

But in cases where only scaler boards are used, we have to resort to this type of cutting. I allowed the TV to run for several hours before handing it over to the customer. Mission accomplished and result satisfaction got added to the collection.

Hands of a surgeon, eyes like an eagle. Well done Maestro thank you for that later explanation of cutting traces vs masking off pins and when either are needed. You made a light bulb go off in my head regarding a TV that I tried to repair some time ago. If only I knew you then! Keep up the good work!

Try to get some practice and you can do it easily. Buy repair books from Jestine Yong's collections and learn (Kent's EBooks, Damon's Ebooks). That's what I did. Many thanks for your comments.

Although you very well explained the risk involved in fixing these kind of LCD TV failures, it is still a magical fix that only can be done with the right knowledge and experience like you showed here again! Thanks for another interesting TV repair article that I do hope will come in handy when a future similar repair comes my way.

Many seem to use TV for background noise and you may still have met needs of customer well.
High prices of everything is turning me away from repairs I would have funded in the past.

Good explanations about this tv, however i wouldn't want to try this type of repair with customer, since my personal original 32" lg tv i did cutting which gave 100% result after repair, started showing tiny few lines at extreme lift side of panel after about two months. My people here wouldn't accept this after all their money spent.Well, i still gain one or two things, thanks for sharing sir.

Many thanks for your comments and inputs. We may have to try shorting the cut tracks at the panel side; single with single and double with another double. If it does not work, then single with double. If it does not work, we may have to remove the LVDS cable, then feed upto 70 V (7A to 10A) on the panel side cut tracks. Then the carbon would burn and lines would vanish. But this is a very tricky job. You may have to just touch and take it. Should not hold the wire, as it will cause fire. Take care.
