Dead DVD Player Repaired
This dead dvd player was brought to me by a young girl. When I opened it, I observed someone has attempted to repair it but couldn’t, instead did more damage to it. When I powered it and checked, there was no output voltage, so removed the smps and examine it.
I noticed there are broken track, dry joints and an secondary output e-cap missing. I repaired broken track with use of copper wire, patched dry joints and replaced the missing cap with 470/16v.Smps has 5v output. This dvd player uses only 5v from power board, this is a surprise to me.
When I connected everything together and power on, the front panel did not show any sign of life. Press the button switches noting happened. Then i removed the front board, guess what happens, it fell into two parts with seven broken tracks :see picture below:
So what do I do next?,tag dvd unrepairable or try repair tracks? Well since I enjoy track repairing, i did it.
As usual I used thin copper wire to make new tracks and also used 4 minutes glue to join the two broken parts together, see pictures below:
Then I connected everything together again and power on, dvd came alive, all switches functioning, see the reading/ counting figures on front board.
This is the finished repaired work.

Replacing all those broken pcb tracks was a very tedious job but you managed to do it very well! And it probably was the only solution left to do when a new frontpanel board is not available.

I cannot stress enough what an EXTRAORDINARY repair this was. 99% of us would have seen that circuit board, closed it back up and given it back as unrepairable. Even if our own mothers asked us to fix it. Of the 1% who would dare to try; how many would have actually succeeded? I'm humbled by the fact that you have been doing this for only 3 years. You almost missed your calling my friend...almost. Well done!

Sir You have done a very painstaking job, and have succeeded well. It looked like you used some wire from a transformer to use for jumpers, that is an unusual use, to do that. Very well done, I have reinforced cracked boards with tinned wire to make the trace stronger, and reinforce the board.
