Dim Display In Calculator Repaired
Yesterday when I am doing some calculations with my calculator I found the display on screen was very dim. I thought the battery cell of calculator was the problem. Hence I have opened the calculator to replace the cell. Suddenly I recalled that I have replaced it with a new cell about a month ago. I guess the cell could have been defective causing the dim problem. When I checked with my Multimeter I found that both the cells (showing 1.5 volt) were good. This means the problem could be in somewhere else.
Hence I have checked the output voltages on the wire where they are soldered, again I am getting 1.5V. I have checked the PCB for some loose connection or for open track –
I found nothing wrong. Inside the calculator does not have repairable parts- there are only four capacitors and one IC without any marking on it. See the photo below:
Even all the wires found to be good and no physical damage. Next, when I gently pressed the back side of the LCD Screen I found some life of hope because while I am pressing the LCD, the character on LCD was getting darker. So what was the solution?
I applied the hot air from the hair dryer on the back side of the LCD but when I look at the display from the front side I was shocked to see only dark colour on the screen. I was thinking that the calculator could be permanently gone and decided to put everything back to order. After fixing the cover and the battery and applying some force at one corner of the LCD and wiped the screen by pressing with my fingers, the calculator came back to life.
