You are right Kevin. Many people just throw stuff away and buy new since they are not too expensive most of the time. I'm sure that makes manufacturers very happy!
My sister bought a Projection screen TV ( about 60 inch) from a garage sale for $50US around a year ago. I have been waiting for it to break down so I could fix it and write an article about the repair, but it is still working great.

Contact issues are more prevalent than I had imagined.
