Before the start of this article, I request the readers to see the following links, which has all the external and internal photos, which I do not wish to repeat here:

Rusted Crystal Caused No Radio In Philips CD Player Model AZ380/94 | Electronics Repair And Technology News Rusted Crystal Caused No Radio In Philips CD Player Model AZ380/94 (jestineyong.com)

This similar three-in-one Philips set belonged to my neighbor living opposite to my house. He brought it to me with the complaint that the Radio was not working and the CD was also intermittent. I had attended to this set a few months back, when the problem was found due to dust collection in the function switch.

I had then opened the set, cleaned it thoroughly and just lubricated the switch and found everything working just fine. So, this time, I dismantled the set like in the two cases referred to above.

I did a thorough dry solder patch up of the boards (the picture above is after doing that work) and replaced all the electrolytic capacitors as most of these were out of the permissible ESR readings.

Then checked the functions one by one; Radio, USB and CD and found these to be working.

So, refit the boards back to its case and checked the set thoroughly for several hours before giving delivery to the customer.

Here is a picture of the defective components:

Mission accomplished with satisfaction getting added to its collection!
