It is not a dumb question. It is a very good question as reader could learn from both of us. Okay before replacing the transformer you have to make sure that the corresponding components to the transformer are good. Sometimes in electronic repair we have to take risk and try it out. Whether it is a failure or success we will learn from the experience so that in future if we ever come across such problem we will by then know how to deal with the problem.

I have a westinghouse 32" that blew a transformer. The board (Darfon 4H.B0700.051) is damaged from the transformer blowing but it doesnt look like the traces to the part were effected. The transformer i need is $30, The whole board is about $150. If the traces are fine and i replace the transformer what are my chances of it being a success. I really dont want to buy the whole board if its possible for me to just replace the transformer. I know these transformers are known to go out on people alot but im also not sure if its something else on the board that caused it in the first place. Should i give it a shot and just try getting a new transformer, Or am i better off just buying the whole board. Thank you and if this is a dumb question, Im sorry 🙂
