Hi DANIEL,

I have seen this type of resistor before but not with such a high ohm. Resistor rarely go short circuit usually it is open circuit. 50mohm could be 50 milliohm (not megaohm) which also means 0.05 ohm. From the photo you have given me (R05J) means .05ohm with 5% tolerance. If your meter get a very ohm reading (near zero ohm) then this particular resistor is good.

Hi Jestine,

I was wondering whether or not you have come across problems with metal plate cement resistors. Example:

I recently had a very high ohm cement resistor (50mΩ / 5w / 1%) go short circuit in a Sony Passport Photo Printer. I cannot seem to find a replacement for such a high value resistor, at least not of the same type.

I used a 50mΩ 10W 1% power resistor of the moulded type, not cement or ceramic.

Have you come across problems with these cement resistors and if so, what have you used for replacements???
