Visteon OA Fiat Stilo car radio no FM reception
Hi good people, here I put together a new car radio repair guide for the:
Car type: Fiat Stilo
Radio Manufacturer: Visteon
Visteon part no.:2FCF-18C838-AE
Serial No.: M029233
Fiat part number: 735296994
The customer brought to me this equipment with no FM reception. The radio cannot receive FM radio station signals or it is too weak. The first problem and the biggest one is, does this type of audio equipment is bond to the cars ECU (Electronic Control Unit) and if you wish to put it on your service bench and try to power on then you got this message:
NO CAN NETWORK means does the radio is out of his vehicle and cannot communicate with the host ECU.The radio must be connected to the CAN BUS communication rail to the host computer in the car. If you try to put this type of car radio into another car, I mean into another Fiat Stilo than the radio will ask for a code.
If you can not start the equipment on your bench how can you repair or make a diagnostic?
Here are a few solution:
- you can buy a CAN BUS simulator for this type of radio
- you can repair it until it is connected to the car
- you can make diagnostic through a car diagnostic tool but you can not know which part is shorten or open, or what part you have to change…
- almost every car radio like this have a so called DIAGNOSTIC MENU
I took the DIAGNOSTIC MENU option.
By power on the radio and pressing but hold the buttons 3 and 6 you will go directly into the diagnostic menu. After that, you can press the numbers from 1 to 6. Every number pressed opens a diagnostic option with a result.
Let us see what type of option we have:
No antenna connected
This is the voltage of the input signal from the antenna
You can leave the diagnostic menu by pressing the button AUDIO.
Let us see what the problem is.
- I recognized a ANTENNA OPEN CCT
- Short circuit failed
- Signal strength very weak, about 0.3V
This entire test is done until the antenna was connected to the radio.
There are 2 reason for a low input voltage and antenna open cct.
- the tune chip is bad
- Somewhere the wiring is broken between the radio and the antenna.
The problem was a broken antenna socket soldering on the pcb. Otherwise, this type of radio has a common problem with the tuner chip, which is the TEA6842H.
This is the pcb of the car radio.
After the fresh solder, let us see what the new diagnostic measurement show:
This is much better then before. Can you remember the measurement before?
It was 0.3v but now we have a 1v measurement. It is still low but I am under the earth in my service center and here are very weak any radio signals. The reading should be between 1.6v and 3v. I sent back to the customer the radio and asked him for the radio condition in his car. He told me, he could not remember when he could hear the last time so nice and clean music from his famous radio station like now again.
Here is the radio pin out if somebody need this:
So, mission accomplished.
I hope this will help someone to get a new knowledge and a new repairing experience.
