Good Feedback On November Repair Newsletter

By on November 7, 2011

Two days ago i sent out the November monthly repair newsletter to all my ERG members. I received tons of emails saying that the article was good and impressive.  There was another email that said "Wow even a small bad SMD component could cause such problem in LCD TV". The response was unusually high as compare to other articles that i have sent earlier. This has proven that most of the readers preferred problem and solution and some explanation how a particular circuit work. That means it looks like i have to come out with similar article but on many different equipment in the future repair newsletter. If you have comment about this post please do write to me-thanks.

Hello Jestine, yesterday Sunday a TV was brought to me, and it was China made Symphonic. However on the tube it marked Orion. It had many smd resistors and one that I checked was a 223 (23k) that was shorted taking my voltage to ground. Just the change of this small resistor cured the problem. With this timely newsletter I see the need for a removal of SMD worktools like workstation. Thanks

    HI JgManza,

If you work on lots of smd ic and components then you need a rework station. If there is occasionally one or two smd components then using a normal solder gun could do the job. I guess the resistor you were referring to was open circuit and not short circuit because rarely we could find a shorted resistor.

    HI Rolando,

You can use a normal solder gun or a rework station to remove it. You can buy smd parts from digikey.com

Oh, thanks for the advice Jestine. The line had voltage and after the resistor no voltage, but it is on the ground line. I thought it was taking it to ground. Thanks for that piece of treasure.
