Right guess!some new series of laptops does not required OS or GPU Switch while connecting the external monitor(even you can connect projector also) right from bios you can see the screen.Some laptops have an external display "auto-switch" feature, which can be configured in the BIOS of the Laptop.

This is for activating lid sensor which turn off power to the lid when you are closing the lid without power off the laptop.
