I don't get what you mean. Is the laptop shutdown after using for certain amount of time or immediately shutdown the moment you turn on the laptop?

Yes it could be the port or the adapter problem. If after changing the port or adapter and the problem still persist then suspect bad components in the laptop power supply circuit.

It is 4 years old. Occassionally laptop will not recognize adaptor and hence will not charge the battery. If I fiddle with the input (i.e., remove adaptor and reconnect it) the laptop will recognize it and start charging. What should be done? Change input port or the adaptor. I changed battery but same result.
