Laptop Touchpad Repaired
One of my techie friends sent me laptop palmrest for touchpad’s left side keys Button is not working problem, to fix it.
Turned Back the palmrest for visual inspection.
Removed left side key top for testing …… First checked touchpad cable for continuity then Cleaned the touchpad cable contacts. Then removed left side key cap to inspect it from inside. Found Rubber cap’s top damaged which press & make contact of plastic conductive membrane to work as a switch.
As you can see in photo in middle part having rubber cap & both sides are clips for locking & retaining top plastic cover on key.
As you can see Rubber top is already torn; so simple process is to replace it with working one….
Now from where to arrange???…….
I always Keep Junk not working keyboards with me for this type of repairs. So I arranged one & put it in place of the old one.
Re assembled touch pad.
As my friend’s Person is waiting for the pickup & in hurry I missed many photos what i could do cover like old keyboard’s Cap removing & more. This is common failures which I have repaired before also ….
After pickup of the keyboard he tested on his place where he fully disassembled the laptop for deep cleanup.
He connected & confirmed the working of touchpad keys working properly.

It is always a good thing to keep partly defect spare parts at hand for these non electronic defects that often take more time to fix!
