The laptop of this story is an IBM ThinkPad Model No.:R40 Type 2722. The complaint was one of the USB ports was loose and therefore a false-contact with any USB device connected was always present.

The device was disassembled step by step (note that disassemble a laptop is a process very tedious and delicate).

Finally I got the USB port.

The four contacts of the USB port were re-soldered and the external metal case as well.

Note: the other USB port of this laptop was re-soldered to in the PCB (4 points).

When the laptop was fully assembled and turned on, I connected to the USB ports my SAMSUNG Digital Camera and a LEXAR Pen Drive, and look what happened then.

Wow! The USB ports worked perfectly. Mission accomplished

    Thanks, but i have a question, in some pcs i have found that some usb ports are not recognizing even the OS is ok. Is this a chip problem or socket problem or my be dry solder as in your case. Please help.

      Well Gopal, there could be some reasons:
      * dry solders as in this case.
      * remember the USB port depends on the South Bridge (chipset) and its Microcontroller as well.
      * no driver of USB ports installed in your Operating System.
      * etc.

      Have a good day, Humberto.
