In my common cheap LCD watches moisture often oxidizes the battery contacts. With green contacts (oxidized copper) as a result. I often just have to open my watch and clean the battery contact and afterwards it runs again for a couple of years. (The battery itself is still fine in those cases but just gets a bit green on one side, but even new batteries tend to oxidize without ever having been used).
And if I'm not mistaken someone told me that they therefore do not use Gold contacts in refrigerators but Silver instead?
