Looking at Small Electronic Components

By on September 7, 2012

Are you having problem looking at small electronic components? Even in my 30s i have no problem in looking at the small SMD components but reaching 40 plus I have to change my spectacle to the multifocal one so that I do not need to remove my spectacle when looking at small components. Is this a disadvantage for repairers when their eyesight have problem? Definitely no because one can always use a magnifying glass to help to see the small components. In my workshop I have few types of magnifying glass. I have the big and the small magnifying glass and the power ranging from X 4 to X 40! I even have one that is rated at X200 but that is not necessary. A x10 magnifying glass is good enough for most of the troubleshooting work.

What about your eyesight? Is your eyesight still good even in the 40s, 50s …..?

As time goes by I find that I have to use amagnifying lamp  more often. I use the one with the 22W circular flourescent lamp to light up the area being viewed: http://www.harborfreight.com/fluorescent-magnifying-lamp-66384.html
Also, I use the type that is fitted to your head:http://www.harborfreight.com/magnifier-head-strap-with-lights-38896.html.
i hope that links are OK, I am not trying to advertise, just show the products that I personally use.

WOW X40! That must be the type with stereo viewer? I used one a work it was a trinocular, the third optic was for a camera so defects found on PCBs could be saved to the computer and sent to the manufacturer of the PCB for quality control.

      Hi Matthias,

I've got it from drivestar dot biz under universal tool categories. Then click on microscope.
