We found while desoldering, some SMD component is having solder joint underneath that  it is difficult to remove the component using soldering Iron. So this I made trick to make hot plate using Soldering Iron & Door Stopper Tower Bolt latch.

door latch

I removed Soldering iron Bit and using one cut piece of Aluminium heatsink I just inserted that in this latch unit in proper way so that

soldering iron bit gets fits and making good contact with latch while heatup.

And Hot plate is ready to use.

how to make your own hot plate for soldering

Using also simple…….. Just arrange one broken ceramic tile or piece of marble stone to keep under this soldering iron unit. Now turn ON the soldering iron and wait till it heat up properly check the heating using solder wire on it. Now put & hold the PCB over the unit. Only heat up the base area of the component by pressing the PCB towards hot plate using some metal tool or screwdriver and by using tweezer check for the component if it moves on little jerk just pullout that component using tweezer & done.

For soldering same trick is applicable just heat up the PCB refresh the solder on the point once the solder is heat up and starts melting just put the new component and gently press it using tweezer over and move the PCB a side……………..done.

This trick is just for them who cannot afford costly tools for SMD rework.

Note: you can use this trick where the PCB have components only one side and where the components beneath to be removed.

Very good idea to remove smd components like led bulbs. Can we use this idea to remove the smd Ic in normal pcb boards. Thank you very much for sharing.

Luckily I already have a hotplate and other tools for it. But it is a handy idea for them who do not have the right tools. In the past I only used a lighter to solder the wires for Security installation cables. In those cases we didn't even needed a solder iron or the electricity!

Agree with you Lighter is the best option.
