using Cloth is just precaution instead of using thin clothe prefer to use something like Canvas /Denim/cotton type thick material.

Using some cloth on base while disassembling is a smart idea as long as the tiny parts do not have the same color as your cloth. I have searched invain for many hours in the past for very small items that dropped onto the floor and somehow were camouflaged by the same kind of carpet color. Or worse when all parts are falling onto the floor together with the cloth when it suddenly moves from the table.
