Movement Drift On A PS4 Controller Repaired and Maintained
A guy who lives nearby brought this PS4 controller for repair. The customer explained that there is movement drift to the left and right when playing games on his Play Station 4
When tested the controller using my iphone, I noticed a serious drifting on the two joy sticks on this PS4 controller.
Usually this gets fixed when cleaning and lubricating but in this case it was better to replace the two joysticks.
The customer also mentioned something about a missing buttons but I will deal with that later after I replace the two joysticks on the PS4 controller.
Four screws have to come off to expose the inside of the controller. A word of warning here when taking the top cover off because there is a flex cable connected to the main board so take your time and be gentle when opening such a device.
If you see the round soldering joints on both edges of the board, these are what holding the joystick to the board.
I am going to solder them out now.
Finally the joysticks are off the main board and it is time now to replace them with the new ones.
These are the old joystick taken out of the board.
These are the new replacement that went on board for better performance.
Once they were soldered on board, it was time now to replace the missing parts on the controller, connect it to my iphone and test.
I could not find a new replacement so I took them off a used not working PS4 controller and it worked just fine. Take a look
As it was put together, it was time to test the controller. Since the customer did not bring his play station to carry out the test, I found this easy and very convenient way to do the testing.
On the controller, press and hold both option and PS buttons together till the light on the controller starts to flicker rapidly on and off and that is to activate the Bluetooth then go to your blue tooth setting on your iphone and activate that.
You will get a notification about the controller, push connected and it will get connected.
If you do not have this program on your iphone down load it from the net and give it a try. I test all the controllers from Play Station to Xbox and so far it has been serving me well.
